Today marks two weeks since I started this blog. In that time I’ve heard from three of you commenting on my posts. Until yesterday, I was wondering whether anyone else was reading them. Then I got curious and checked the statistics on my account. Much to my shock, I discovered that there have been 616 pageviews on this thing since I started!
Of course, I understand that doesn’t mean 616 people, but rather 616 times that SOMEONE has read a posting. That doesn’t mean just looking at the blog list. In order to be counted, you have to actually click on "Read More" and open the entire page. According to Blogger.com, this has happened 616 times as of this writing. According to Blogger.com, besides the lower 48, I also have readers in Alaska and Quebec. How the heck they are finding me I have no idea. I have gone out of my way to leave no key words or any searchable items, I have turned this blog off from being web searchable, and have basically done everything I know of to keep people from seeing it except those who are on distribution. But somehow, other people are not only finding it but actually reading it. Quite a lot of other people. And this after just two weeks. I am astonished!
Frankly, I’m not sure what the number means exactly since Blogger.com also publishes pageview statistics on each individual posting. When I add up all the postings, it comes to 198 views. This is quite a difference from 616. Yet, the point remains that this is still a far sight more than the handful of you who are on distribution.
And the number of people reading increases with each posting. My first post got 16 hits, my last 38. The most popular one was the Koto Addendum with 40 hits. I’m really hoping this trend continues. It is quite exciting to find that so many people have taken an interest in this blog, and all without me lifting a finger. What would happen if I actually publicized this?
It is one of my blog mysteries and I will be doing a series of postings talking about blogging and all the various assets and liabilities I discover as I continue to learn. But for all the mysteries involved, this has been by far the biggest: where are these 616 hits coming from? Who are these people? Where are they from? What do they think of what I’ve written? I’d surely love to hear from you all.
Well, one of you has already contacted me about how difficult it is to leave comments on a posting. So I will spend this post talking about "Comments." I too have tried to send myself comments and have found it quite a bit less than straight forward. You click "Comments," type in your message, and then discover you have to be registered with one of eight services (i.e. Google) before Blogger.com will let you send the comment. There is an option called "Anonymous," and I have found that it works most of the time. But sometimes it doesn’t. But don’t use "Anonymous." I’d like to know who you are!
So here’s the tip of the day: Commenting is really quite easy, it’s just that you don’t do it the way the book says. Don’t use "Comment" to comment. By far an easier way is to simply click on my Profile Page. You can get there very quickly just by clicking on my photo directly below the "About Me" on the right column of the blog below the Blog Archive. Clicking on my photo will take you to my Profile Page and directly below my photo there will be an email link. Click on this and send any message to your heart’s content to my gmail address.
So for those of you who have had a hard time sending me replies and have given up trying, that’s the way to do it. Please feel free to send comments. I’d love to know who you all are. Looking forward to hearing from all 616 of you, or 198 of you, or 40 of you, or whatever it is. But it is clear now that, whatever it is, it’s a lot more than the half dozen of you I’m sending this thing to.
